Sedum, also known as dog bean sprouts, bulbil Sedum, and nail grass, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Sedum in the Crassulaceae family. The whole plant is hairless, with 3-leaf whorls, rarely 4-leaf whorls or opposite, and the leaves are linear. The inflorescence is cyme-shaped, with a short-stemmed flower in the center. The follicles are slightly forked and the seeds are small. The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from June to July.
Sagewort is mainly distributed in the northern temperate zone and the tropics. It has a wide natural distribution in China, with a large geographical span, such as central and southern China. The grass has strong growth adaptability, drought and cold tolerance, and is easy to plant. It mostly grows on grassy slopes, in shady and humid places on low mountains or in rock crevices.
The young stems and leaves of Sagebrush can be eaten cold with seasonings, stir-fried, or made into soup. Sagewort can clear away heat, detoxify, remove dampness, and stop bleeding. It is mainly used to treat symptoms such as sore throat, red and swollen eyes, and poisonous snake bites. The grass has strong growth adaptability and is easy to plant. It can be enjoyed as a potted plant in the garden or as an outdoor ornamental groundcover.
