山大齒猛蟻作為大齒猛蟻的一員擁有獨特的陷阱顎，這種大顎左右開合範圍能達到誇張的180°，它們攻擊一次的速度很快。單體作戰能力很強，往往可以輕松地將大顎狠狠砸入獵物體內，對其他蟻種和昆蟲具有較強烈的攻擊性。
這種攻擊行為能有效地正面抵禦其他比自己體型大的昆蟲。山大齒猛蟻的攻擊方式並不是非常依賴蟄針，而更熱衷於使用陷阱顎擊穿或擊暈對手。必要時也會使用大顎砰擊地面從而把自己向後彈出一段距離從而擺脫危險。
