The Black and White Ring Nepenthes is a cultivated variety of pitcher plant, known for its unique pitcher coloration. The pitchers feature alternating black and white ring patterns, coupled with dark red or purplish-black lids, creating a visually striking appearance. It is suitable for collection as an ornamental plant. The Black and White Ring Nepenthes gets its name from the white band that appears directly below the peristome of each pitcher. It produces elongated pitchers from its leaves. While pitcher plants are usually green, this rare variant has very dark pitchers, which some growers refer to as black. The Black and White Ring Nepenthes can thrive as a common houseplant on a sunny windowsill with direct sunlight.
Care Instructions:
-
Substrate: Use a well-draining substrate, such as peat moss mixed with perlite, sphagnum moss, or bark (recommended ratio 1:1:1)
-
Watering: Keep the substrate "moist but not waterlogged." Distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water is recommended
-
Humidity: Maintain environmental humidity above 60%. This can be achieved with a humidifier, pebble tray, or regular misting
-
Temperature: Daytime temperatures are recommended to be 22-30°C, and nighttime temperatures can be slightly lower at 18-22°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Note: Frequent feeding of insects is required. Intentionally throwing insects into the pitcher helps "supplement nutrition." However, pitcher plants can catch insects on their own, and artificial feeding can easily lead to rot.
