Komurasaki Land Hermit Crab (Coenobita violascens)

Care Instructions:

• They prefer spacious, well-ventilated environments; glass tanks or reptile enclosures can be used for keeping.
• Substrate is essential. Coco coir, sand, and moss are recommended. Driftwood and hiding facilities (coco bricks, sand, moss, etc. available online) should be provided.
• They are good climbers, so the enclosure needs to be covered to prevent escape.
• It is recommended to prepare a separate molting bin with thick coco coir for them to burrow into.
• Insufficient humidity can lead to dry gills, so regular misting is required.
• Hermit crabs cannot drink tap water directly; it will kill them. Purified water can be used.
• Must provide both a freshwater bowl and a saltwater bowl.
• Daily feeding can include fruits, fish and shrimp meat, or specialized crab food.
• When changing shells, you can choose shells that are 1-2cm longer and 1-2cm wider at the opening than their old shell for them to select from.

Hermit crab size is determined by the opening size of the shell:

Hermit crabs with shell length around 1-2cm have a shell opening diameter of about 0.8-1cm.

 Hermit crabs with shell length around 2-3cm have a shell opening diameter of about 1-1.5cm.

 Hermit crabs with shell length around 3-4cm have a shell opening diameter of about 1.5-2cm.

 Hermit crabs with shell length around 4-5cm have a shell opening diameter of about 2-3cm.

 Hermit crabs with shell length around 5-6cm have a shell opening diameter of about 3-4cm.
