The Cobalt Blue Snakehead is a medium-sized snakehead, with captive individuals typically reaching 20-25cm, and wild ones exceeding 30cm, with rumors of "giants" reaching 35cm.

Adults have a dorsal fin with a white edge, black in the middle, then blue. The bottom part is a rich grayish-yellow. The pectoral fins have yellow-black rings. The body is brown with black longitudinal stripes and spots, resembling camouflage.
