Blackback Land Crab (Gecarcinus lateralis)
The black-backed land crab is also known as the Bermuda land crab. It is found along the Atlantic coast from South Padre Island, Texas, south to Macuto, Venezuela. It also inhabits the Florida Keys and Caribbean Islands.
As the black-backed land crab's name describes, it has a large black spot on its back that covers most of the central carapace, although the exact shape is variable. The legs, claws, and outer parts of the carapace are red, orange, or white. The width of the carapace can reach 11 cm.
