He studied under his father, Shozan Watanabe, while researching glazes, and began firing small bonsai pots around 1978. He mainly produces glazed bonsai pots and water basins using the slab building method. The glazes are predominantly Oribe, Kinnyu, White Kochi, Yellow Kochi, and Ruri Glaze, with various intermediate colors as well. He is a Tokoname bonsai artist who creates pots and water basins of various sizes, from small to large, in a mud-like color. The artist's name is read as "Kazuhiro," but it is commonly read as "Ikko."
