After training under his father, Watanabe Shozan, he researched glazes and began firing small bonsai pots around 1978. He mainly produces glazed bonsai pots and glazed suiban (water basins) using the tatara (slab-building) technique. His glazes are diverse, primarily Oribe, Jun-yu, Shiro-kochi, Ki-kochi, and Ruri-yu, with various intermediate shades. He is a Tokoname bonsai pot artist who creates pots and suiban in various colors of clay, for small and large bonsai. The artist's name is read "Kazuhiro," but it is generally pronounced "Ikkou."
