Stone Beauty (Melanotaenia boesemani)
The most impressive thing about the appearance of the Stone Beauty is its different body color expression in the front and rear sections, and this expression will become more obvious as the maturity of the fish increases. The color of its head and the first half of its body is mainly blue-gray to olive green, with a dark blue metallic luster on its scales; the color of the back half of its body, dorsal fin, anal fin and tail fin is bright orange-red or orange. Yellow, occasionally when turning around, the angle shines with a slightly yellow-green metallic luster; and at the intersection of these two areas, one to three interlaced horizontal stripes of dark and light colors will appear faintly. As the fish matures, the color of the head and the front half of the body will turn to a bluish dark gray, while the back half will turn to a more saturated bright orange-red.
