The Marbled Newt (scientific name Triturus marmoratus) is a salamander of the family Salamandridae, genus Triturus, with a body length of 13-17 cm when adult, and skin featuring a marbled green and black pattern. During breeding season, males develop a dorsal crest, and their tails may have white markings.
Care Guide:
-
Provide both land and water areas. Land should occupy 1/3-1/2 of the space, using driftwood and stream stones to create hiding places. Water depth should be 10-20 cm (juveniles) or 20-30 cm (adults). - Ensure good ventilation and cover the tank to prevent escape.
-
Use dechlorinated water or tap water that has sat for 3 days. pH should be 6.5-7.5. A filter can be used. - They prefer cool temperatures. The ambient temperature should be maintained around 20℃, and humidity should be kept at 70% for optimal conditions.
- Water change frequency can be adjusted by season: once every 1-2 weeks in winter, and once every 3-5 days during other seasons.
- It is not recommended to cohabitate them with other amphibians or fish, to prevent injury from fighting and cross-infection.
