Bonsai Pot: Heian Kosen, Small, approx. 15.5cm long, oval pot, mid-band, glazed, actual item, used pot. Heian Kosen was born on February 28, 1933. He began cultivating bonsai around 1955. Fascinated by Tofukuji pots, he began making his own pots entirely self-taught around 1965. He was determined to use climbing kilns for firing, and as many kilns were successively abandoned, he eventually came to use Kawai Kanjiro's climbing kiln. He spent two years working to reproduce Tofukuji's "nashi-kawa-dei" (pear-skin clay) technique. For glazes such as Jun-yu, Oribe, Cinnabar, and Soba, he was not satisfied with off-the-shelf glazes and attempted his own unique innovations...
