Golden mahseer (Cyprinus putitora)

The body is long and flat on the sides, with a slightly raised dorsal edge. The tip of the snout is slightly pointed, the snout covers the base of the upper lip, and there is a shallow groove on the side at the front edge of the preorbital bone. The lips are slightly thick and close to the surface of the upper and lower jaws. The upper and lower lips are connected at the corners of the mouth. The lower lip has 3 lobes, approximately equal in length and width, and the posterior end is truncate. The mouth is narrow, terminal, and deeply horseshoe-shaped. There are 2 pairs of barbels. The ends of the maxillary barbels extend back to below the edge of the eye, and the ends of the angular barbels extend back to below the back edge of the eye. The dorsal fin has strong spines and a smooth trailing edge.
