砂魚蜥是石龍子科砂魚蜥屬物種，體長18-20厘米，體色以黃色至橘色為底色並帶有黑色至棕色橫斑。其寬大的爪子能增大摩擦面以減少沙地行進阻力，身形及光滑鱗片適應沙漠環境，運動時形態類似魚類遊動。該物種主要分布於北非和中東的沙漠地帶，以日行性掘洞活動為主，挖掘隧道時可在沙中潛行。砂魚蜥以昆蟲為主食，繁殖方式為卵胎生，雌性每胎產3-5顆蛋，孵化期約60-75天。
飼養建議：
- 選擇寬敞、低矮的容器，重點保證底面積
- 建議設置溫度梯度熱區 33-35°C，冷區 25-27°C，夜間不低於18-24°C
- 保持低濕度（約25%），提供淺水盆飲水即可，環境切忌潮濕
- 肉食性，主食各種昆蟲（如蟋蟀、面包蟲），註意補鈣
- 冬季若溫度持續低於15°C，會進入冬眠狀態，停止進食
