紅尾黑鯊又叫火尾魚，因為此魚遍 體漆黑，只有尾鰭紅得好像一團燃燒的 烈火。紅尾黑鯊在幼魚時身體各鰭呈黑 色，長到8cm左右時尾鰭變為金黃色， 長到10cm(即達到性成熟)時尾鰭才 會變成鮮紅色。水溫變化也影響尾鰭的 顏色，水溫過低時尾鰭的顏色便褪為橙 黃色，甚至會變成純黑色。
