The Rainbow Shiner, also known as the Multicolored Neon Fish, is found in the Black Warrior River basin in northwestern Georgia, USA. It primarily inhabits rocky rapids and clear streams. The Rainbow Shiner has a slender body with beautiful silvery-purple scales. As the fish swims, its scales intermittently shimmer with vibrant purplish-red hues. In dim light, their iridescent, glowing body color is even more noticeable, like sprites dancing in the water.
The Rainbow Shiner is a cold-water fish known for its tolerance to low temperatures and strong adaptability. It is active and docile, and can be kept with other small fish and shrimp of similar temperament. It can even survive when temperatures drop to 10℃, demonstrating its considerable cold tolerance.
