Kumgang Fat Minnow (Phoxinus kumkang)
The Kumgang Minnow (scientific name: Phoxinus kumkang) is a cold-water fish belonging to the genus Phoxinus, family Cyprinidae, order Cypriniformes. It has a laterally compressed body, with its length and height being similar. Its caudal peduncle is low and long, and its body is light brownish-gray. There is a reddish-brown longitudinal band above and below the lateral line, and a black spot at the base of the dorsal fin. Its mouth is subterminal, and its dorsal fin is short and opposite to the pelvic fins. This species inhabits mountain streams and is mainly distributed in China's Yalu River and Korean waters. The Kumgang Minnow is a typical cold-water species, sensitive to water quality and temperature, especially requiring that the water temperature not be too high. For home rearing, a chiller must be used, otherwise, it can hardly survive the summer. It has a shy and gentle temperament, so it should not be cohabited with overly aggressive species.
