Philippine Land Hermit Crab ( Coenobita pseudorugosus )

The Red Hermit Crab is one of the smallest species of land hermit crabs. Their most striking feature is their colorful and varied body coloration, ranging from vibrant red and dark red to pink. Their antennae are red at the base and orange at the tip, and their square eyestalks are dotted with black spots, giving them a very unique overall appearance. These small and adorable hermit crabs, with their bright colors and miniature cute appearance, have become a favorite among many pet owners.

Care Instructions:

• They prefer spacious, well-ventilated environments, and can be housed in glass tanks or reptile enclosures.
• Substrate must be used; coco fiber, bottom sand, and moss are recommended. Driftwood and hiding facilities (coco bricks, bottom sand, moss, etc. available online) should be provided.
• They are good climbers, so the enclosure needs to be covered to prevent escape.
• It is recommended to prepare a separate molting container with a thick layer of coco fiber for them to burrow in.
• Insufficient humidity can lead to dry gills, so regular misting is necessary.
• Hermit crabs cannot drink tap water directly, as it will be fatal. Purified water can be used.
• Both a freshwater dish and a saltwater dish must be provided.
• You can feed them fruits, fish and shrimp meat, or specialized crab food daily.
• When changing shells, you can choose shells that are 1-2cm longer and 1-2cm wider at the opening than their old shell.

Hermit crab size is based on the size of the shell opening:

Shell length around 1-2cm, shell opening diameter around 0.8-1cm.

Shell length around 2-3cm, shell opening diameter around 1-1.5cm.

Shell length around 3-4cm, shell opening diameter around 1.5-2cm.

Shell length around 4-5cm, shell opening diameter around 2-3cm.

Shell length around 5-6cm, shell opening diameter around 3-4cm.
