Guenther's nothobranch (Nothobranchius guentheri)
The Gono’s killifish is a highly ornamental small African killifish. Males are about 6-7 cm long with a yellow or orange-red base color, vibrant red markings on their scales, and a fiery red caudal fin as their most distinctive feature. As typical "annual killifish," they have evolved a unique survival strategy: adult fish die during the dry season in their native habitat, while their eggs lie dormant in dry mud and hatch when the rainy season arrives.
Care recommendations:
- Water temperature between 22-25°C; pH kept at 6.0-7.0. Weakly acidic soft water is recommended to simulate their natural habitat.
- Provide hiding spots such as aquatic plants and driftwood to mimic stream and pond environments, offering them a sense of security.
- Can be fed dry pellets or artificial feed; occasional live food like bloodworms can be given for added nutrition.
- Can be kept in a community tank, but avoid housing them with overly small fish, as they may chase weaker tankmates.
- They are strong jumpers, so the water level in the tank should be lowered or a lid should be used to prevent them from jumping out.
