Fireflies are tiny yet enchanting insects in nature, known for their unique bioluminescence. They are small in size, usually active at night or dusk, emitting a warm and soft green or yellow light from the tip of their abdomen, like scattered stars floating in the night sky. Fireflies produce light through chemical reactions within their bodies. This unique bioluminescent mechanism is not only an important tool for their courtship and communication but also a breathtaking natural wonder.

Adult fireflies: Their natural lifespan is 7-10 days. After receiving them, adults can usually be kept for 2-7 days. Adults do not need to be fed; just spray water to keep them moist.

Firefly larvae: They feed on soft-bodied animals such as snails, slugs, and earthworms. You can also provide leaves, fruit juice, and fruits (such as apples, pears, grapes, etc., cut into small pieces). They have a weak adaptability to the environment and are easily disturbed. During rearing, human interference should be minimized. Firefly larvae prefer to inhabit moist, densely vegetated environments. Firefly larvae are relatively sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. The ideal temperature range is generally between 20-30°C, and humidity should be maintained at 60%-80% for best results.

Rearing method for semi-aquatic firefly larvae: Prepare a glass terrarium or other container. Place coco coir inside, then add some pine bark on top, and plant some small bog moss or other plants to provide humidity and hiding spots. Then, simply place the larvae inside. Generally, a 200*100cm container can house about 200 larvae. Spray the soil with water to keep it moist, and feed small wild snails or aquatic ornamental snails (apple snails, golden snails, etc.) in appropriate amounts daily, keeping the environment clean.
