Broad-axe mantis (Hierodula petellifera)

The adult mantis is about 6cm long. Because of its large size and wide distribution, it is relatively common among mantises. It is also relatively easy to raise and is suitable for novices. The body color of the mantis is generally green, but occasionally brown can be seen.

The mantis' hunting method is an ambush type. They always approach their prey quietly or lurk in places where their prey may visit, and then seize the right opportunity to attack at an alarming speed. So we usually see it moving slowly instead of running around. It is also suitable for observation experiments.
