Emperor tetras are distributed in the waters surrounding western Colombia. They generally have an orange-red body color, with a black stripe on the lower half of their flanks. Mature males will develop brilliant colors on the upper half of their flanks, and their dorsal and caudal fins will extend backward, making them exceptionally beautiful and captivating fish.
