The Ember Tetra, also known as the Flame Tetra or Dwarf Orange Tetra, is about 3 cm long, laterally compressed, and slightly rhomboid. It is a small, brightly colored tetra species. The Ember Tetra's body is entirely deep orange, with transparent muscles revealing its skeleton. The abdominal cavity is covered by reflective material, but also overlaid with red, giving it a golden appearance. Male Ember Tetras have a black spot on their dorsal fin, which is less noticeable in females. Additionally, there is a variant of the Ember Tetra where the red body color recedes, appearing bronze-yellow, with only the caudal fin retaining red. This variant is called the "Flame-tailed Ember Tetra" and is a very rare individual.
