Golden freshwater clams feed on microorganisms, algae, fish food scraps, and fish waste in the water, thus helping to purify the water in aquariums.
Because of their small adult size (about 1-2 cm, some may be larger), they are excellent biofilters for water purification. Their golden shells also add an interesting touch to the bottom layer of the aquarium, making them a great choice for small to medium-sized tanks.
Friendly reminder: Golden freshwater clams are entirely golden when young, but it is normal for them to develop a dark edge as they mature.
