Formosan subterranean termite
The Formosan subterranean termite is a social insect of the order Isoptera, family Rhinotermitidae, and one of the most widely distributed amphibious termites globally, capable of thriving both in soil and within structures. Formosan subterranean termites live in highly social colonies, with mature nests potentially housing millions of individuals. Their colonies exhibit clear caste differentiation: reproductives (king and queen), soldiers, and workers. They are typical "amphibious" termites, able to build nests underground as well as large main nests within buildings (such as ceilings and wall cavities). They possess an extremely powerful reproductive capacity and feed on cellulose-rich materials like wood, wood products, dead branches and leaves, and paper.
Care Instructions:
- Formosan subterranean termites are photophobic. The rearing environment needs to be dark, using an opaque container or light-blocking treatment.
- The ideal temperature is between 25-30℃, and humidity should be maintained above 80%.
- You can use filter paper or untreated wood. Do not feed paper with ink or processed wood.
- Formosan subterranean termites are highly destructive. Absolute safety isolation must be maintained during rearing to prevent escape.
- The queen's body length is approximately 0.8cm, and worker body length is approximately 0.3-0.6cm.
