The Red Lacewing pupa is a highly ornamental tropical butterfly species belonging to the Nymphalidae family, primarily distributed in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. The pupal stage lasts approximately 10-20 days, after which the wings, proboscis, and other organs gradually mature. Upon emergence, the adult butterfly slowly breaks free from a crack at the top of the pupal case. Initially, its wings are crumpled like paper, but they fully unfurl within about 1-2 hours, revealing brilliant wing colors and unique serrated wing margins.

Adult Morphological Characteristics:

(Male) Male butterfly: The upper side of the wings is a vibrant orange-red, with black veins and white spots forming a serrated pattern.

(Female) Female butterfly: The coloration is lighter, the wing margins are more distinctly wavy, and some individuals have a bluish-gray iridescence.

The Red Lacewing symbolizes passion and vitality, making it a star species in tropical butterfly gardens, offering both ecological educational and ornamental value.

Key points for pupal care:

1. Hang in a well-ventilated, cool place, avoiding direct air conditioning and excessively low temperatures (25-30°C is ideal).

2. Upon receipt, manually hang the pupa to keep it suspended.

3. Lightly mist with water daily to maintain environmental humidity.

4. Once the butterfly pupa is placed, it should not be touched again. You can observe the internal development of the pupa by shining a light on it.

5. The butterfly pupa is fragile during development; handle with care.

6. In summer, emergence typically occurs in about one week due to higher temperatures.

7. Once adult, it can be fed and lives for about 2-3 weeks, or it can be released.

Note: Red Lacewing pupae are gray or grayish-brown, which is a protective camouflage to blend into the environment and avoid predators. Pupa colors are shipped randomly. After pupation and emergence, males and females have different wing patterns and colors.

Not 100% of pupae will successfully emerge as butterflies. The general probability of adult emergence is 35%-70%, which is a normal natural hatching phenomenon. Some pupae move, some do not, but all pupae are alive. If the pupa is damaged or fails to hatch, it will smell and leak fluid.

Swallowtail larvae will be available after April, with stock coming in during summer.
Shipping time: Available from April to September, dormant after October.
(Actual purchase is of early instar larvae, which will develop into green medium to large instar larvae after a period of rearing.)
