It has an irregular rounded tuber with a network of fibrous roots around it. The above-ground stems are fleshy and multi-branched. The leaves are irregular heart-shaped, with sharp apex, skewed base and toothed edges. Axillary cymes, monoecious and dioecious; each inflorescence often bears 3 flowers. The flowers are 10-15 cm in diameter and rich in color. The perianth has single, semi-double and double petals, and the petal edges are filamentous, corrugated or comb-shaped. The flowering period is very long, starting from May to the end of November, and a single flower blooms for 10-15 days. The capsule is triangular and has three wings.

Bulb begonias are native to several South American countries, including Peru and Brazil. Natural species grow on mountains 3,000 meters high. Positive, likes a warm, moist semi-shady environment. The suitable temperature for growth is 16-21℃, and the soil should be loose, fertile and slightly acidic.

Bulb begonias are dormant from March to April every year and have no radial leaves, only bulbs.
