Bonsai Pot: Heian Kosen, small pot, approx. 8.8 cm long, round pot, glazed, as-is, used pot. Heian Kosen was born on February 28, 1933. He started bonsai around 1955. Fascinated by Tofukuji pots, he began making his own pots completely self-taught around 1965. He was particular about firing in a climbing kiln, and as kilns were successively abandoned, he eventually arranged to use Kanjiro Kawai's climbing kiln for firing. He spent two years working to reproduce the Nashi-gawa clay of Tofukuji, and for glazes such as Junyu, Oribe, Cinnabar, and Soba, he was not satisfied with ready-made glazes and attempted his own unique innovations.
