The Orchid Mantis, also known as the Indian Flower Mantis, is a small mantis species renowned for its exceptional mimicry. Primarily inhabiting the tropical jungles of Asia, their green or yellowish-brown bodies perfectly camouflage them as flowers or leaves. Their most striking feature is a pair of vibrant, conspicuous eye-spots on the inner side of their forewings. When threatened, the mantis will suddenly spread its wings, revealing these large "fake eyes," instantly startling predators. This unique defensive strategy, combined with their docile nature, has made them a highly favored ornamental insect pet.

Care Suggestions:

  • A plastic or acrylic enclosure with a mesh or screen lid, with a height at least twice the mantis's body length to ensure sufficient space for molting while hanging upside down.
  • Place branches, vines, etc., inside the container for climbing and hanging. Soil substrate is not recommended; paper towels can be used for easy cleaning.
  • Maintain a warm environment with temperatures between 22-28°C and humidity between 60%-80%.
  • Feed live insects such as fruit flies, dubia roaches, or crickets. The food size should be smaller than the mantis's body.
  • Mantes have a strong territorial instinct and must be housed individually.
