Blood Lily is native to the famous Cape Province, Namaqualand. A blood lotus variety with leaves as good as flowers, with red-edged wavy leaves and tiger stripes on the back, which is very beautiful.
The blood lotus with wave leaves is called the European version of the "flower of the other side". It blooms without leaves, and the leaves and flowers can never appear at the same time.
When the blood lily is dormant in the summer, all above-ground parts dry out to prevent water loss through transpiration. Then, before the green leaves grow in autumn, slender red stems will grow from the bare ground, and the blood-red flowers will bloom, which is breathtaking, hence the name "blood lotus".
